Class 9/16
We focused on structure and the idea of imposing design using structure in class the other day. We experimented with two techniques -- in the first technique, we tried to "feel out" the pose/body from the inside by scribbling a wire frame structure. I really enjoyed this exercise -- I'm a pretty scribbly sketcher anyway, so this is actually pretty similar to the way I do my most preliminary drawings.
In the second technique (derivative of one of Walt Stanchfield's methods) we used tube shapes to show direction and perspective. The goal was to understand how to build a figure in a particular pose to get a better grasp on what the body was doing. I had a harder time with this exercise -- it was a challenge to draw with boxes and squares instead of organic shapes.
